Is it permissible for an unveiled woman to perform the Hajj while being unsure whether she will wear the Hijaab after performing it?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
The questioner should perform the obligation of Hajj whenever she is physically and financially able and has a Mahram man to accompany her, whether or not she is wearing the Hijab.
Likewise, wearing the Hijab is obligatory on the Muslim woman before and after performing Hajj, and there is no relation between observing the obligation of the Hijab and that of Hajj. Performing Hajj is one of the pillars of Islam and must be observed by the Muslims who are capable of performing it. Moreover, wearing the Hijab is obligatory on the Muslim woman whether she has performed Hajj or not. A free Muslim woman should cover her entire body with loose-fitting clothes that do not outline or define the shape and size of her body or any part of it and are dense enough to conceal the color of her skin.
In conclusion, our sister, the dear questioner, has to observe the obligation of wearing the Hijab and of performing Hajj. The obligation of Hajj is not waived (i.e. she is not exempted from fulfilling it) even if she does not adhere to the Hijab. Therefore, she should perform the Hajj; perhaps her Hajj will be accepted and become the cause for her to become religiously committed and adhere to the obligations imposed by Allaah, the Exalted. The same ruling applies if she is going to perform a voluntary Hajj, as long as the relevant due conditions are met.
Allaah Knows best.
