Asalam o Alaikum!!!! In Pakistan there is a trend of wearing shalwar kameez for women and for men also. But women also wear dupatta to cover her shoulders, chest and head. But from some years there is a change in trend in which women wear trousers(somehow they are named as trousers (but it is only change is shalwar design according to me) with other part of dresses But these type of trousers not resemble that of men, unbelieving ladies these are made of the stuff that is only worn by women. These trousers are lose and worn with long shirts and modest ladies also wear them because they are lose. There are also women in Pakistan who wear tight trousers and jeans etc. I am not talking about them. I have also read a fatwa on a site that these days women and men dresses are not much different. So if they are loose and fulfil requirements of Islamic dress for women then they can be worn. So I want to ask that if women wear this kind of trousers. Is it permissible because it covers awrah. And don't refer any fatwa to me please explain me separately as I have read many fatwas on your site but couldn't get satisfactory answer as according to me these are not like men or non muslim ladies. Please rectify me if I am wrong
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
In brief, the Muslim woman’s clothes should meet the following conditions:
1) It should cover all the body apart from the face and hands. Scholars held different opinions regarding covering the woman’s face and hands and whether it is obligatory or not.
2) It should not be an adornment in itself.
3) It should be thick and not transparent or see-through.
4) It should be loose-fitting not tight-fitting.
5) It should not be perfumed with fragrance.
6) It should not resemble the clothing of men.
7) It should not resemble the dress of disbelieving women.
As long as these conditions are fulfilled, such an outfit is approved in Islam and it is permissible for the Muslim woman to wear it. For more benefit, please refer to Fataawa 83033 and 83702.
In fact, there is no specific outfit which the Muslim woman is obliged to wear as per the Sharee'ah.
Allaah Knows best.
