What is the Sharee'ah ruling on a husband who criticizes his daughter and wife because they wear transparent clothes inside their apartment in the summer and none sees them except the sons who are between 8 and 14 years old? Would you please advise us so as to end this family's problems?
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
This man's wife and daughter are required to obey him in this regard. It is obligatory to obey the husband and father in doing what is good. This man, however, should be gentle in commanding them and explain to them that a woman is disallowed to display whatever she wants of her body parts before other women and mahram (permanently unmarriageable) men. Rather, she is only allowed to display her head, neck, palms and feet before them. You can review the limits of the woman's ‘awrah (body parts that must be covered) before her mahram men.
Allah knows best.
