salam alaykum Brothers, who is supposed to give out walima - bride's or groom's family? In Sahih Bukhari we find ahadith which say that Prophet was giving out walimas when he was getting married. In many arabic countries, walima is supposed to be given out by the bride's family - is this accordingly to islam? Jazak Allahu khairan.
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
Waleemah (i.e. the marriage banquet), is a recommended act it is not obligatory according the majority of Muslim scholars and this is the preponderant opinion. It is upon the man to do and not the woman. The Prophet ordered ‘Abdur-Rahmaan Bin ‘Awf, to give a banquet when he got married as reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim .
