My employees use their working time and my company computers to search for work in another company. They even go to interviews during their working time. Of course this decreases their productivity and affects the result of their work. Is what they do correct? Can I ask them for compensation for the losses I have because of their low performance and lack of concentration at work?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
It is permissible for you to ask your employees for compensation for the losses you have incurred due to their negligence and not performing the work which they are obliged to do. You are also permitted to deduct from their salaries according to the time they did not attend to their work. The scholars confirmed the permissibility of taking compensation for the losses caused due to abuse or negligence.
