Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullaah Dear Shaikh, One of my female relatives has been complaining lately that after praying her Fajr Salaat, she recites Surah Yaseen and reads the Azkaar-as-Sabaah, and when she lies on the bed, after a while, she starts having a strange feeling (unable to move her hands and legs), as if someone is in front of her, able to hear others talking and unable to reply, and after reciting Aayatul Kursee with great difficulty and blowing on herself, she comes out of that state. Once, she experienced this while Surah Al-Baqarah was being played in the room, which is actually supposed to drive off the Shayateen, according to a hadeeth, and this has also caused a lot of concern (why can't the Quran drive the Jinn away). Lately, she has been experiencing this frequently (almost on a daily basis), and someone told her that it could be a Jinn, and the Jinns go to a woman and have sex with her. Hearing this, she got so scared that she now a days sleeps with the lights on (the whole night), and is desperately looking for a solution. Even after doing all the Azkaar-as-Sabaah in which we seek the protection of Allaah (SWT) a number of times, and even after reciting Al-Baqarah, it keeps happening. Please advice. Jazaak Allaahu Khairan
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
We advise the woman whom you referred to in the question to fear Allaah alone and continuously perform Ruqyah and recite the Quran and the legislated mention of Allaah, and perform her religious obligations and refrain from committing prohibitions. If she does so, she will be cured, Allaah willing, from the harm of jinn. A jinni may harm a human being, but if the latter continuously performs Ruqyah, the jinn becomes weak and Allaah repels his harm from the person. Allaah Says (what means): {Indeed, the plot of Satan has ever been weak.}[Quran 4:76].
As regards your statement that the Quran does not drive away the devils, the answer is that the Quran is a weapon, and a weapon requires one to use it properly. The problem is in the one who uses this weapon and not in the weapon itself.
For more benefit on how to drive the devils away and protect our homes from them, please refer to Fataawa 86917 and 89035, and to Fataawa 86466 and 88660 on the treatment from being possessed by jinn.
