Disrespecting the Quran and the Sunnah

Question

Assalamouraleikoum sheik, Can u tell me if Allah forgives the one who has disrespected his book or the book that contains the sunnah of prophet Muhammad(PbUh). Is there any hadith or ayah that says something about this. please clarify for me the matter.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

There is no doubt that knowingly and deliberately humiliating or disgracing the Book of Allaah or the books of the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is an act which takes a person out of the fold of Islam, and whoever has done so is obliged to repent to Allaah.

When someone sincerely repents to Allaah while fulfilling the conditions of a true repentance, then Allaah will accept his repentance and will forgive him regardless how grave his sin is, even if it is disbelief. Allaah Says (what means): {Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them.}[Quran 8:38]. Allaah also Says (what means): {Say, “O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning] do not despair of the Mercy of Allaah. Indeed, Allaah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He Who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.}[Quran 39:53]. In another verse, Allaah Says (what means): {But those who committed misdeeds and then repented after them and believed — indeed your Lord, there after, is Forgiving and Merciful.}[Quran 7:153]. Al-Qurtubi may Allaah have mercy upon him when interpreting the above verse, said: "Misdeeds here refer to disbelief and acts of disobedience."

However, if a person dies and did not repent from his disbelief, then Allaah informed us that such person is not forgiven. Allaah Says (what means): {Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers – upon them will be the curse of Allaah and of the angels and the people, all together.}[Quran 2:161]. Allaah also Says (what means): {Indeed, Allaah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills.}[Quran 4:48].

Hence, a person should take the initiative to repent to Allaah and be optimistic as Allaah ordered and encouraged His Slaves to repent and informed us that He Likes those who repent.
