Question
Does the use of suppositories for the treatment of women necessitate Ghusl (ritual bath)?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
The use of suppositories for treatment either for men or women does not necessitate Ghusl (ritual bath). There are only two things which necessitate Ghusl:
1- The insertion of the head of the male's private parts in the vagina or anus of a woman or a man, whether or not there is ejaculation, and whether the person is an adult- and this is according to the consensus of all scholars
- or a non-adult (did not reach puberty yet), according to the most preponderant view of the scholars; indeed this is the view of the Shaafi’ee and Hanbali schools. Nonetheless, the Hanbali school conditioned the non-adult to be one with whom one may have sexual intercourse, like the age of ten years for boys and the age of nine years for girls.
2- Ejaculation with a desire, whether from a man or a woman, and whether this was due to sexual intercourse, a wet dream, or masturbation, and so forth.
