Fatwa CenterHer husband is very aggressive and uses abusive language
Question
I belong to a very decent family. I married two years ago, my husband is very aggressive and very irritating in nature, he uses such an abusive language I didn't even imagine it and never heard of it. Please suggest me some Du'aa to control his anger and he becomes start to use sweet language and become a decent man. God will bless you.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
If your husband is as you mentioned, that he is aggressive and obscene, then there is no doubt that he is wrong and negligent. So, firstly we advise you to be patient with him, and advise him in a good and soft manner. He should be reminded of Allaah and the evil fate of such behaviour, and of the seriousness of a bad moral conduct and evil fate of obscene language. Furthermore, he should be reminded about the importance of having a good moral conduct and guarding one's tongue. There is no doubt that supplicating Allaah is the best thing and the best means of achieving one's objective and repelling harm. One might advise him to supplicate with the supplication of the Prophet 
: "Allaahumma innee as-'aluka khashyataka fil-ghaybi wash-shahaadah, wa as-'aluka kalimatul-haqqi fil-ghadhabi war-ridhaa." (O Allaah, make me fearful of You whether in secret or in public, and I ask You to make me say the truth at times of pleasure and anger).
Also, you may supplicate for him by what is good and beneficial for him. Like supplicating: "O Allaah! Make my husband righteous", and so forth, but we do not know any special supplication in this regard.
