Question
I would be grateful if you could tell me what is the best Dhikr that keeps our mind occupied and our heart pure of satanic desires. And also please tell me the time at which Du'a are usually listened at and what's the best way to make a Du'a so that it can be fulfilled.
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
We have already issued Fataawa 88296 and 85350 about the times when the supplication is most likely to be granted, so please refer to them.
As regards the best mention of Allaah, the recitation of the Quran is absolutely the best one; reciting it while pondering over its meaning, studying it, and understanding its rulings. The Prophet 
said: "The best speech after the Quran is the following four…" [Ahmad] The above is evidence that the Quran is the most excellent mention of Allaah. Whoever reads the Quran, he gets a good deed for every letter, and a good deed is multiplied tenfold, as confirmed by the Prophet in a narration reported by At-Tirmithi
. Furthermore, An-Nawawi said: 'The Quran is the best mention of Allaah.' Therefore, the best mention after the Quran is what is mentioned in the remainder of the above narration: "…Subhaanallaah, wal-Hamdu lillaah wa laa ilaaha illallaah wallaahu Akbar. (How perfect Allaah is, and all perfect praise is for Allaah, and none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah, and Allaah is the greatest)." The Prophet said: "The most beloved speech to Allaah are the following four: ''How perfect Allaah is, and all perfect praise is for Allaah, and none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah, and Allaah is the greatest; you may start with anyone you wish." [Muslim]. Moreover, the Prophet said: "The best mention of Allaah is to say: " laa ilaaha illallaah", "None has the right to be worshipped except Allaah." [At-Tirmithi] However, it should be noted that engaging in reciting a legislated mention at a particular time or in a specific condition is better than engaging in the recitation of other legislated mention of Allaah, for instance saying: "Subhaana rabiya Al-'Atheem" when bowing in prayer is better than reciting the Quran, and saying: "Subhaana rabiya Al-A'laa" in prostration is better than reciting the Quran. Rather, it is disliked to read the Quran when bowing or prostrating in prayer. The Prophet said: "It is disliked for me to recite the Quran when bowing down or when in prostration." [Muslim] Thus, if it is legislated that one should recite a particular mention of Allaah at a specific time, then doing so would be considered as the best mention of Allaah, but in general, reciting the Quran is absolutely the best mention as stated above.
Finally, we ask Allaah to purify our hearts and rectify our affairs.
