Question
Does the income derived from sale of pirated CD's is Halaal or Haraam? Or the person who is working with pirated CD's is deriving Halaal income?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
We have already clarified in Fatwa 85102 the ruling of copying copyright CD’s. As regards copying them for the purpose of getting a profit from them without the permission of their owners, then this is not permissible because Islam protects the corporeal rights of people. This is indeed the Fatwa given by a number of Islamic Fiqh Committees and the permanent committee of Iftaa’ (issuing legal rulings) in
