Question
I am small framed with large breasts, since I had a baby my chest got bigger, resulting in excess skin and sagging. I feel that people stare at my chest before and after the pregnancy. Is it ok to have a lift to reduce the size and to keep people from not looking, even though I wear very loose clothing?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.
Undergoing an operation in order to reduce the size of your breasts takes the same ruling as that of undergoing operations for beautification purposes. If it is changing something upon which Allaah has created a person, then in principle this is forbidden as Allaah informs us about the devil to have said (which means): {…and indeed I (Satan) will order them to change the nature created by Allaah...}[Quran 4:119]. Therefore, if your breasts are big in a usual manner, then we do not see that it is permissible for you to undergo an operation in order to decrease their size as there is no great religious benefit in doing so. It is only a way of beautifying oneself and this is included in changing the nature created by Allaah. However, if your breasts are big to an unusual size, and that this causes harm to you then there is no harm in undergoing such an operation in order to remove the harm and Allaah says (which means): {Allaah does not want to place you in difficulty.}[Quran 5:6]. Allaah further says (which means): {And (Allaah) Has not laid upon you in religion any hardship.}[Quran 22:78]. Imaam Ibn Katheer
interpreted this verse to mean: 'Allaah did not entrust us to do what we are unable to, and did not oblige us to perform a matter which may include difficulty, except that Allaah makes a way out to it.'
