Question
Is smoking marijuana the same as drinking alcohol in view of Islam? Is it considered "Kabaer"?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
Marijuana is an intoxicant that is consumed with cigarettes and other ways of smoking. It’s ruling is the same as any other intoxicant like alcohol. The Prophet said: “Anything that (intoxicates), causes drunkenness is prohibited.” [Al-Bukhari]
The Prophet also said: “Everything that intoxicates is alcohol and alcohol is forbidden.” [Muslim]
We conclude from the above that Marijuana is one of the grave major sins.
