I want to know the authenticity of the following Hadith: "Whoever memorizes and preserves for my people forty Hadith relating to their religion, Allah will resurrect him on the Day of Judgement in the company of Jurists and religious scholars". If this Hadith is not authentic, please give reasons. I read that this Hadith has been reported in several books of Hadith.
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. The Hadith your are asking about is weak as confirmed by al-Ajlooni in his book "Kashf al-Khifa wa Muzeal al-Ilyas" al-Daruqutini said: All chains of this Hadith is weak, no authentic chain for it is available . Ibn Hajar said: I collected all the chains of this Hadith in a booklet. There is no chain that is safe from defects . al-Baihaqi said in "Shib al-Ieman", there is no sound chain for this Hadith . Ibn Asakir said: All the chains of this Hadith are not free from criticism . al-Nawawi in the preface of "Forty Hadith" said: All Huffaz (great scholars of Hadith) have agreed that this Hadith is weak . (Quoted briefly from the statement of al-Ajlooni ) Sheikh al-Albani considered some of the chains of the Hadith as fabricated. However, the Hadith is reported by many various words, even though we did not find the words you mentioned in your question. Allah knows best.
