Fatwa CenterThe direction for moving a spoon while cooking
Question
I have been told by one religious group that while cooking food, we should move spoon in anti-clock wise direction, since we do Tawaf of Kaaba in that direction. They say it is Sunna. Is it true? They also say that we should wear wrist watch on right hand and not on the left hand. Kindly advice.
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
Moving spoon against the direction of a clock's hand at the time of cooking is not Sunnah, rather it is Bidah and a myth if a doer considers it a form of worship.
Wearing a wristwatch on the right or left hand is permissible. However, wearing on the right hand is desirable, since the Islamic Sharia always emphasizes and prefers using the right side to the left.
