What is the ruling on having wedding parties with no music or anything like that in the mosque?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
It is permissible to hold wedding parties, to proclaim marriage, to strike the Duff (percussion instrument consisting of a single drumhead of skin stretched over a circular wooden frame) and to give a banquet in the mosque.
The Prophet said to 'Abdur- Rahmaan ibn 'Awf on the occasion of his marriage: “Give a banquet even with one sheep.” [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]
Another Hadeeth reads: “Proclaim marriage, hold it at mosques and strike the Duff (on this occasion).” [Al-Bayhaqi]
Here, we say, since such a party is void of music and prohibitions, then there is no objection to hold it in the mosque provided the mosque is kept clean and what is done is proper.
Allah knows best.
