I would like to ask if it a sunnah to Say Duaa' Khatim Al-Quran in Ramadan or other than Ramadan? Did the prophet Muhammad (Salla Allaho Alaihi Wa Salam) do that during his life? And if it is Sunnah, please provide me with the authentic Hadith that states so. If it is not, why do some Imams do that especially in Ramadan and where do they get all that long duaa'? .
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. Dear brother, It is Sunnah to make Du'a after completing recitation of the Holy Qur'an whether it is in Ramadan or any other month since Du'a is more probable to be answered in such times. Anas () used to gather his family after completing the recitation of the Holy Qur'an, and then, make the Du'a and his family members following and saying "Ameen". The Salaf (predecessors) also used to make Du'a after completing the recitation of the Qur'an during Ramadan. Imam Ahmad and others witnessed this. But it is more likable to make the Du'a in the Witr prayer, i.e. in it, Qunut, after returning to standing from Ruku (bow) as this is a time and place of making Du'a. The Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) used to say during the Qunut (O My Lord! I seek your protection by doing what pleases you and avoiding what can make you angry…..) Again one can in the Qunut say: (O My Lord! Give us enough of your fear that will prevent us from committing any sins …) narrated by Al-Termizi. Hassan Ibn Ali said that the Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) taught him these words to say it during the Qunut: (O Allah! Guide me with those you guided to the straight way….) The Du'a should be said with an impressive voice without raising the voice too much or reading the Du'a as if it were the Qur'an. In the Du'a one should take in to consideration the needs of the Muslims. One also has to choose comprehensive words for Du'a. Finally, it is likable to make Du'a of completing the recitation of the Holy Qur'an in the Qunut of the Witr prayer. And Allah knows best.
