What is the Hukum of Islam in buying food from the shop that sells beer?
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
It is permissible to buy from a shop that sells forbidden items like beer. Indeed, it is confirmed that the Prophet dealt with the Jews who dealt with Riba (interest and/or usury) and he died while his armor was mortgaged to a Jew for 30 Saa’s of barley (1 Saa’ = 2.480 grams) as reported by Al-Bukhari . But if there is a shop that does not sell forbidden items, then it is better to buy from it. In case the person who sells forbidden items is a Muslim, then one should advise him and explain to him how evil it is to do so and its doer is cursed on the tongue of the Prophet . Anas said: The Prophet said: “Allaah has cursed wine, its presser, the one who demands it to be pressed, its drinker, its carrier, the one to whom it is conveyed, its server, its seller, its buyer, the one who consumes its price, its purchaser and the one for whom it is purchased.” [At-Tirmithi and Ibn Maajah]
So the owner of the above shop is cursed for many reasons:
1- He carries it to give it to someone else.
2- It is carried to him.
3- He sells it.
4- He consumes its price.
5- He buys it.
6- It might be purchased for him.
7- In most cases, its seller consumes it.
Allah knows best.
