I have a question about committing zina (unlawful sexual intercourse) at night during Ramadan. Will a person’s fasting be accepted if he commits zina in Ramadan once? Would it make a difference whether that incident happened at the beginning or the middle of the month?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
Committing zina is forbidden, sinful and immoral. The prohibition of zina is even more emphasized in Ramadan. If a person commits zina in Ramadan, then that indicates that the person is indifferent toward the rituals that Allah has commanded us to honor. Allaah, the Exalted, has informed us that honoring the sacred ordinances of Allaah is best in the sight of one's Lord. Whoever commits adultery is highly advised to immediately turn to Allah in repentance and regret his act in the hope that Allaah will forgive him.
As for whether the fast is accepted or not, it is all up to Allaah. None among the people knows anything about that. Since the crime was committed at night, then the person's fast is valid, and he is not required to repeat his fast. Once again, whether one's fast is accepted or not is up to Allaah Almighty alone.
Allaah Knows best.
