Assalamwalaikum, My company has provided medical insurance as part of the benefits under my employment contract. Recently, my mother passed away and i had to travel on emergency to my home country from Qatar. I have been informed that the medical insurance covers expenses for travel (tickets) to home country during emergency. My question is whether it is permissible within the rights of Islam to claim for the travel expense to home country through medical insurance ? also, visiting doctors and receiving medicines under this medical insurance, are they permissible ?Please shed some light on this.Jazakallah Khairun
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
If you are entitled under the contract terms and conditions of employment to receive travel tickets in cases of emergency, and to receive medicine and others benefits, then there is nothing wrong in benefitting from them, even if the employer refers you to an insurance company to get these benefits from it. This applies even if there is an Islamic violation, like if the insurance is commercial (i.e., non Islamic); the sin (of dealing with such a company) falls on the employer and not on you.
Allah knows best.
