Question
Salam alaikum, Please i want to confirm the position of this hadith and also explanation for such. The hadith says the Prophet to have said this Words that Allah says Fari funni qubla anta buduni, Wa manlam yarifuni fa khaifa yabudun Meaning : "Know me before you worship me, and if you don't know me how the will you worship me".
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.
After consulting the Hadeeth and Sunnah literature, we could not find any scholar who has assessed that the tradition mentioned in the question was a Hadeeth Qudsi or attributed it to the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, or any of the Companions, Tabi‘oon, or the followers of the Tabi‘oon.
We advise the questioner not to waste his time and efforts in searching for the meaning of statements whose sayer is unknown. It is better for him (the questioner) to devote his efforts and time to understand and reflect on the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, and act upon them.
