Question
Can drug abuse be caused by an evil eye because i have a big problem my children are all addicted to different types of drugs and our life is not what u call a happy life they were all very smart and talented they do believe in allah i just dont know what happened i really think its the cause of someone
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
The evil eye, envy or the like may be a cause of many afflictions, including addiction. So, it would not be far-fetched to say that addiction may be caused by the evil eye or envy. If one thinks it most likely that it is due to an evil eye, then one should resort to Ruqyah (reciting certain Quranic verses over the afflicted person). For more benefit, kindly refer to Fatwa 3273.
However, we do not like to hastily refer such matters to the evil eye, envy and the like for that may cause the Muslim individual many Satanic whispers and illusions that can bring about bad consequences. Accordingly, it is more appropriate to search firstly for the normal causes. To know about the ways of treating addiction, please refer to Fatwa 88545.
