which of prophets' companion did prophet Muhammad(SAW) compare with Yusuf (AS)?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
We do not know of any Companion whom the Prophet likened to the Prophet Yoosuf (Joseph) ; but the person who was described by some Companions to be the Yoosuf of this nation is Jareer ibn 'Abdullaah Al-Bajali as he was one of the most beautiful men. When he came as a Muslim from Yemen, the Prophet said about him: “Someone will enter upon you from this door (or from this path) who is the best of the people of Yemen as he has an angel's visage on his face.” [Ahmad - Al-Albaani classified it as Saheeh (sound)]
An angel's visage means a sense of beauty because the angels are described to be beautiful and when people were to describe someone as beautiful, they would liken him to the angels.
Ath-Thahabi narrated in his book As-Siyar, from Abu ‘Uwaanah, from ‘Abdul Malik ibn ‘Umayr, from Ibraaheem ibn Jareer that 'Umar said: “Jareer is the Yoosuf of this nation.” Ath-Thahabi also narrated: “From Abu Zur’ah, from Jareer who said: “Delegations of the Arabs would come to the Prophet and he would send to me and I would wear my garment, and then I would come and the Prophet would be proud of me (in front of those delegations).” It was also reported that Jareer said: “The Prophet told me: “You are a man whom Allaah has created in a good form (with beautiful features), so beautify your moral character.” [Al-Albaani classified this Hadeeth as Dha’eef (weak)].
Also, Mukhtasar Ash-Shamaa'il reads: “Jareer passed by ‘Umar ibn Al-Khattaab, and Jareer took off his Ridaa’ (upper garment) and he stayed with his Izaar (lower garment) so ‘Umar told him: “Put on your Ridaa’; then ‘Umar said to the people: “I have never seen a man more beautiful than Jareer, except what was conveyed to us about the features of Yoosuf, the truthful.” Al-Albaani said: “A very Dha’eef (weak) Hadeeth.”
Allaah Knows best.
