Question
Is it permissible that two persons perform ‘Umrah at the same time on behalf of the same deceased person?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
Volunteering to perform ‘Umrah on behalf of a deceased person is a good deed and earns that person a great reward. The deceased also gets the reward of this worship. It is permissible that two persons perform two independent ‘Umrahs at the same time on behalf of the same deceased person. It is valid, in principle, that each one of them performs an independent ‘Umrah on behalf of the deceased. Performing the two ‘Umrahs at the same time does not cancel the validity. We have previously clarified that it is valid to perform two Hajj's at the same time for the same deceased.
