Question
assalam wa alykum
listening to music is prohibited in islam. but there are so many islamic channels that have music in it (eg. iqra channel that have many islamic programmes) while advertising or in the starting or ending of the programme. is it permitted to watch these channels? some times the programmes on these channels are very informative. we mute the volume when there is only music but in news channels while they give news there is music and listening to live news is very imp. in todays world. so is it permitted to watch news where your intention is only to listen to news not music?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
It is permissible to listen to the news or any other beneficial programmes from this channel, and it is an obligation to turn the volume off when music is broadcasted.
