Is it permissible for a man who made ‘Umrah to go for making Hajj in the same year?
All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
It is permissible for anyone who performs ‘Umrah in a year to perform Hajj in the same year if he/ she can. There is not any difference among scholars regarding this issue. Moreover, a Muslim is required to perform Hajj as soon as he/she can, without delay, because Hajj is an obligation that must be immediately fulfilled as soon as a person can afford for it. This is the view held by the majority of scholars. It is recommendable for the pilgrim of Hajj to practice Tamattu’ – that is to perform ‘Umrah during the months of Hajj, then terminates the state of Ihraam that has been assumed for ‘Umrah, then intends to perform Hajj in the same year. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, was reported to have said, “‘Umrah entered Hajj (that means it can be made during the months of Hajj) until the Day of Resurrection.” [Muslim] The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, performed Qiraan Hajj; that is he performed Hajj and ‘Umrah together in the same state of Ihraam. However, he advised his companions to practice Tamattu’. This means that most of the companions performed Hajj and Umrah in one year. Hence, from where you got the answer that Hajj and ‘Umrah could not be performed in the same year? It is also permissible to perform ‘Umrah more than once in the same year as maintained by the majority of scholars.
