How to use a ticket left by his deceased father's friend

Question:

as salam alai kum,i need your help .my father died two months ago ..my fathers friend gave him ticket ,unfortunately he expired .His friend says i can go take the ticket amount and do what i like or give it to poor or what ever i decide .My question is can i use the money for self and i give little out it for poors.its not that my financial condition is bad...but its not very good either at the moment i have lots of responsibilitys and expenses...pls adv if i can use for self or share the same among my brothers .jazak allah.syed
Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

 

The travel ticket is your father's property, so it becomes the property of his heirs after his death.

All properties that a dead person leaves behind him are considered inheritance which is distributed among all his heirs according to the inheritance rulings mentioned in the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ).

Therefore, the price of the ticket should be distributed among all the heirs. So, if your father has inheritors other than you, then it is to be distributed among all of them. You are not allowed to appropriate it unless they permit you. If they permit you to use it while they are all adults and sane, then you may use it as you wish and you are not obliged to spend a part of it on the needy people.
