All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The contemporary scholars, may Allaah protect them, differed in opinion about the issue of hanging Quranic verses on walls. Some of them forbade it and provided the evidence that hanging verses of the Quran on walls wards off the reverence of the Quran in one's heart. That is because the members of the family at home usually look at these verses and this leads them to get used to looking at them, and therefore, they would not feel any respect or reverence about them.
The other evidence is that these verses which are hanged on the wall could be subjected to damage either by falling down, or subjected to people who do not know their significance to play with them. Or that these verses are hanged in a place where evil takes place and this despises the Quran and contradicts the purpose of hanging them on walls.
Moreover, hanging the verses of the Quran was not done by the scholars and pious people from the Salaf, either the Companions or those who followed them exactly in faith and have mercy upon them.
Nonetheless, some other scholars are of the view that it is permissible to hang the verses of the Quran on walls and that there is no harm in this. They argued that hanging the verses of the Quran is a reason of being reminded about the Quran and getting used to looking at them. It might be that a person would look at some verses and he will be affected by them or that he is deterred about a sin that he was willing to commit.
If one adopts the opinion that permits hanging Quranic verses, then it is more appropriate; however, not to hang them in places of disobedience as we should keep them high above in esteem from such places. One should choose honourable and respectable places. The places where music is heard either via T.V. or something else are not honourable places.
As regards the place where one sleeps or changes his clothes, then this does not contradict honouring and glorifying the Quran.
