Dha‘eef Hadeeth - the sea asking Allaah to drown people

Question:

What is the status of the Hadeeth which says that the sea asks the permission of Allaah The Almighty three times a day to drown people but Allaah The Almighty prevents it?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

 

The Hadeeth in question was narrated by Imaam Ahmad and Is-Haaq on the authority of ‘Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab who directly attributed it to the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam.

However, it is a Dha‘eef Hadeeth as judged by Ibn Katheer and Al-Albaani .
