Praying while standing or sitting to save time

Question:

I work as a security guard and some of the prayer times will be while I am at work and I can't pray them. Can I pray standing or sitting so I will not lose the time? Thanks

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

The prayer is one of the greatest pillars of Islam after the Two Declarations of Faith. A Muslim has to establish the prayer regularly and perform it as Allaah wants at its prescribed fixed time, while fulfilling its pillars, obligations and conditions, unless there is a sound Islamic reason whereby one can offer the prayer without some pillars, conditions or obligations.

Your work is not a sound reason that permits to leave out bowing down or prostrating as long as you are able (physically) to pray while standing or sitting. Therefore you have to offer the prayer on time, bowing and prostrating. If you are not able to do so, you should leave this job which obliges you to neglect one of the most important obligations on you. The capital money of any person is his religion of which the prayer is a pillar.

Allaah Knows best.
