Question:

I wanted to know if I do get any reward for donating money that belongs solely to my father. I mean he gives me money to donate to the mosque every Friday and other days too, from this do I get any rewards. Cause its his money that I am donating.

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions. We ask Allah to give a great reward for obeying your father and fulfilling his wish to do good acts. Know that you get reward for that since you volunteer to give alms on behalf of your father and make these alms reach those who deserve them. As for the reward peculiar to the money itself, it is for the owner of the money not for the one who acts on behalf of him. The author of A'wn Al-Ma'bud explained the Hadith where the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said: Indeed the honest warehouser who gives away fully and completely what he was ordered to give and with pleasure and keenness to deliver it to the right recipient (person) is considered one of the two Mutassadiqin (the 2 people who give away alms). [ Abu Dawood ] The author said in his explanation of this Hadith that the participation in a good deed entitles all participants for a reward. But this does not mean that any of these participants contends with the other. In fact, each one is rewarded according to the extent of his participation. So, their reward might be different. If the owner gives hundred Dirham to a warehouser to give to it to anyone who comes to the front door of his house, in this case, the owner's reward is higher than that of the warehouser. But if the owner gives an apple or some bread to an agent to bring to someone who is far away, then it is the agent who gets more reward because his act is more valuable than the thing he carried. But if the movement's value is similar to the value of the thing he carried, then both the giver and the carrier get the same reward. Ibn Raslan includes among the people who get a reward any agent, slave, woman, child and any person who serves guests in the warehousers. Allah knows best.
