Tattooing with Henna

Question:
I have been talking to my mother lately and we both were wondering, if both of us get a tattoo in a place where no one can see, so it is not attracting any attention, is it Haram? We were also wondering, if Insha Allah we do get one, which material or method should it be? For example, I know it has to be a woman making it and is it true that it should be Hanna material or can it be something else? I am asking to be sure because none of us want to get it done if it is not Halal. The location of the tattoo has to be somewhere no one can see right? so it doesn't attract attention. Correct?
Answer:
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
We thank you for your concern and desire to know the rulings of Shariah before actually involving in the matter.
Know that tattooing is forbidden, it is among the major sins, the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) curses those who commit it. Abdullah Ibn Masoud said that the Prophet (Salla Allahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said: Allah has cursed the lady who practices tattooing and that who gets it done for herself, and also the lady who lengthens hair artificially and the one who gets her hair lengthened artificially . Therefore, you and your mother should avoid this practice regardless of the substance used in it, whether it is henna or anything else.
Allah knows best.
