Question:

I'm a newly married person (1 year marriage). I was living in an apartment, but my wife was not satisfied at all with it. She suffered a lot from this apartment as she saw a lot of horrible things, and she was hearing people talking to her, threatening that they will harm her, or will let me divorce her. She was even suffering hallucinations.I have consulted a lot of "Sheiks" who advised me to tell "Azkar" every day, but my wife couldn't bear it. I decided to change the apartment, but now I'm facing a big financial problem, because I spent a lot of money on this apartment. Some people want to buy it, but I'm wondering if it is right to give them the apartment when I know what is in it. For me, I didn't suffer in this apartment at all, only my wife. Some of my neighbours and their wives had the same complaints, but they are still there. Is it correct to give the apartment to other people? If yes, do I have to tell them about the things my wife was suffering from? If I do this apartment will never be sold.

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the World; and may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

If the questioner is able to sell his house and buy another house without having to face any harm, it is better for him to do so considering the feelings of his wife and getting rid of the problem. However, he should inform the purchaser of the problem. It is known that what happened to the woman may not necessarily happen to any other person who lives in this house.
If selling this house and purchasing another house could cause much harm to him, he is not obliged to sell that house; instead he should seek treatment for his wife. The treatment could be of two kinds:
a) The wife may be suffering from more than mere fantasies. If the matter is so serious then he has to consult a psychiatrist.
b) The house may be haunted by Jinns in this case, he should continue reciting the Qur'an and supplicating Allah. In addition, he may seek help from some righteous people to recite the Qur'an on his wife.
It is also advisable to take your wife to her family for some period. May Allah ease her problems and grant her peace.
Allah knows best.
