All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
The proper way of performing ablution is as follows:
First of all, recite the Name of Allah (i.e. say Bismi Allah) and then wash your palms thrice, then rinse your mouth thrice, then wash your nose thrice by sniffing water into it and then blowing it out; then wash your face thrice, then wash your right forearm (after it the left forearm) up to the elbow thrice, then wipe over your head once with wet hands (while using both hands) starting with the front of your head, then moving to the back, and then return your hands to the front, then using your fingers wipe the interior and exterior portions of your ears, and then wash your feet thrice (the right foot first). This is the perfect way of performing ablution as narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim and other books of Hadeeth. It is also permissible to wash the organs of ablution once only or twice as proved in Al-Bukhari.
After completing ablution, one should say this supplication (Du’aa'): “I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Slave and Messenger. O Allah, make me of those who return to You often in repentance and make me of those who remain clean and pure.” This is an authentic supplication as the Prophet said: “Whoever performs a complete ablution and then supplicates by saying this Du’aa', eight doors of Paradise would be opened to him and he will enter from any door he wishes.”
