All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
There are two methods of performing Ghusl (i.e. ritual bath); the first one is the sufficient method and the second method is the perfect way.
1- The sufficient method: It is to intend to perform Ghusl and pour water on the entire body. By doing so, one has performed Ghusl.
2- The perfect method. A. Washing the private parts. B. Performing ablution in the same manner one performs ablution for the prayer, but without washing the feet. C. Pouring water over the head three times, and then pour water on the entire body, starting from the right-hand side and then the left hand side. D. Washing the feet.
'Aa'ishah narrated that when the Prophet would perform Ghusl from sexual impurity, he would start by washing his hands, then he would perform Ghusl as for the prayer, then he would dip his fingers into the water and make the water reach the roots of his hair, then he would pour water over his head three times, scooping the water up with both hands, and then he would pour water over his entire body. Maymoonah narrated the same thing.
Finally, it should be noted that the jurists drew our attention towards some parts of body which may not be reached by water, like the ear, the navel, the moustache and eyebrow, so one should be cautious about this.
Allaah Knows best.
