Eating Foods Containing Emulsifier Agents

Question:

Asalam u aliekum What is the ruling of eating foods like (chocolates, bread, cookies etc ) containing emulsifier agents like e471, e472 or anyother like that. Mostly when we don't know either they are vegetable basis or pork basis?.please guide.JazakalAllah u khair

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

We have already stated in previous Fataawa that the foods to which this ingredient is added are permissible unless it is proven that they are forbidden.

Doubting its permissibility does not necessitate its prohibition.

A Fatwa has been issued by the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR) to this effect.
