Question:
Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh, Shaykhs. "Praise be to Allah, Who has provided us with food and with drink, has sufficed us and given us an abode, for how many are there with no provision and with no home." In this supplication (it is of the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, to recite it in Arabic before sleeping), when "us" is mentioned, can a child who makes this supplicationg keep their disbelieving family in mind? Or can one praise Allah, the Exalted, only for what He, the Exalted, has given to Muslims, and must we not praise Allah, the Exalted, for what He, the Exalted, has given to disbelievers? And what if those disbelievers are also enemies of the religion, striving hard against the Muslims? May Allah reward you, Shaykhs.
Answer:
All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.
It is well-known that Allah, the Exalted, is the Sustainer Who confers the blessing of provision and shelter upon the whole Creation, for Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
Hence, there is no religious impediment to praising Allah with this Thikr (expression of remembrance of Allah) while having His blessings upon the disbelievers, providing them with food, shelter, and the like of worldly provisions in mind.
Allah knows best.
