All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
The chapters of Al-Ikhlaas and Al-Kaafiroon should be read:
1- In the recommended two Rak‘ahs (units) before the Fajr (Dawn) Prayer. Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, read the chapters of Al-Kaafiroon and Al-Ikhlaas during the recommended two Rak‘ahs before Fajr. [Muslim]
2- In the two Rak‘ahs that are performed behind the Maqaam (standing spot) of Ibraaheem (Abraham) in the Ka'bah. Jaabir ibn ‘Abdullaah said that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, read the chapters of Ikhlaas and Kaafiroon during these two Rak‘ahs. [Muslim]
3- In the Witr Prayer (the last odd non-obligatory Rak’ah of the night). Ibn ‘Abbaas said that the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, would read the chapters of Al-A‘la, Al-Kaafiroon and Al-Ikhlaas in the Witr Prayer. [Ahmad in Musnad. Al-Arnaa’oot declared this Hadeeth as (Saheeh (Authentic))]
4- In the recommended two Rak‘ahs of the Maghrib (sunset) Prayer. Ibn ‘Umar said that the Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, would read the chapters Al-Kaafiroon and Al-Ikhlaas in the two Rak‘ahs before the Fajr and in the two Rak‘ahs after the Maghrib Prayer. [Ahmad in Al-Musnad. Al-Arnaa’oot declared this Hadeeth as (Saheeh)]
5- Before sleeping. The Messenger of Allaah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ordered Muslims to read the chapter Al-Kaafiroon before sleeping, and said that this chapter keeps a person away from Shirk (polytheism). [Ahmad. Al-Arnaa’oot declared this narration as (Hasan (Sound)) Abu Daawood] Al-Albaani declared this narration as (Saheeh)]
Allaah Knows best.
