Slaughtering animals to ward off evil eyes

Question:

I bought big fishing boats for an enormous amount of money, but I failed to benefit from them. They began having so many problems and things got so complicated that I began to spend wastefully on them instead of earning money from them, knowing that they are meant to provide me with a large income. I suspect that I am envied or that they (the boats) are afflicted with an evil eye, especially knowing that my family and relatives began showing signs of envy. One day, I saw in my dream that the first boat was afflicted with an evil eye and that I slaughtered an animal in it to nullify its effect.
Since I had that dream, would it be correct to say that my boats are afflicted with an evil eye? Am I permitted to follow the dream and slaughter an animal to nullify the evil eye?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

A Muslim should not have excessive doubts, because some of those who are obsessed with them begin to doubt everyone. However, it is recommended that one protects himself with 'Athkaar (Islamically legislated remembrances and mentionings of Allaah).

If a person slaughters animals to seek closeness to Allaah The Almighty while seeking His pleasure, it would be an appreciated act and the person who does this would be rewarded. However, if this were done for other than Allaah The Almighty, it would be Shirk (polytheism) and impermissible to do even if it was to ward off an evil eye or anything to that effect.

Allaah Knows best.
