The languages in which the heavenly books were revealed

Question:

Assalamu Alaykum,
Were all the holy books sent in Arabic and then translated into the language of the nations they were sent to?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

 

Allaah informed us that the Prophets, may Allaah exalt their mention, used to be sent in the language of their people. Allaah Says (what means): {And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them.}[Quran 14:4] It is for this reason that Allaah sent down the Torah in Hebrew and He sent down the Psalms (to David may Allaah exalt his mention) in Syriac as stated by Ibn Taymiyyah may Allaah have mercy upon him because they were two languages that the Jews spoke.

The same thing applies to the other heavenly books; they were sent down in the language of the people to whom their Prophets were sent. For more benefit, please refer to Fatwa 126061.
