All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.
We do not know any Hadeeth indicating that a Muslim should eat meat. Eating meat is undoubtedly useful in strengthening the body, and the Muslim is required to be physically strong. However, eating meat is not the only way to achieve strength. Nevertheless, the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, ate meat and liked the meat from the arm (of the sheep), as was authentically narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah . [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Moreover, moderation is required in eating meat without extravagance. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "Eat and drink; wear clothes and give charity – all without extravagance or ostentation." [Ahmad, An-Nasaa’i and Ibn Maajah] For further information, see Fatwa 87881.
Allaah Knows best.
