Question:
Salam. i would be going for hajj for 20 days. during this period, i would be mussafir in makkah, medina. i know i would be slaughtering an animal for hajj , BUT Do i have to do slaughtering back home as well as i give zakat every year? JazakAllah
Fatwa:
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
It is an obligation for whoever performs Hajj Qiraan or Hajj Tamatu' to offer a sacrificial animal in Makkah but the one who performs Hajj Ifraad is not obliged to do so. For more benefit, refer to Fatwa
88989.
According to the view of the majority of the scholars
slaughtering a sheep on the days of ‘Eed (for whoever is not in Hajj) is a confirmed Sunnah from the Prophet
and not an obligation in principal, as we clarified in Fatwa
81799. It is a Sunnah for a pilgrim and for a non-pilgrim.
Therefore, if a pilgrim wants to offer a sacrifice on the days of ‘Eed in addition to the sacrificial animal (due to performing Hajj), then he can do so and he will be rewarded for doing so, Allah willing. He has the choice either to offer the sacrifice of ‘Eed either in his country or in Makkah.
However, some scholars
are of the view that a pilgrim is not required to offer the sacrifice of ‘Eed, and that the Sunnah for a pilgrim is only to offer a Hajj sacrifice.
Allah Knows best.
